IEC and Working Holiday
International Experience Canada (IEC) allows you to explore
and work in Canada for a period of up to two years. IEC includes:
|
|
Back to Working Holiday, it’s a type of open work permit that lasts for up to 12 months and allows you to work for almost all types of employers in Canada. |
Eligibility |
|
If your home country is a partner country with Canada, then you are lucky, you can apply for some or all of the three categories in the IEC (depending on where your home country is).
|
|
You will need to be between the ages of 18 and 30 (18 to 35
in some countries) to be eligible to apply for the open work permit. And have a
passport of your home country.
Some countries only allow you to participate once, while others allow you to join multiple times. As each country is different, it is best that you check the IEC website beforehand or contact Kaizen’s Mobility and Migration Team.
|
How to apply |
|
“I’m eligible for an open work permit, How do I
apply?” The application is entirely online. After you create your Immigration,
Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) account and your IEC profile, you will
be put into a ‘pool’, and you wait. The system is like a lottery, it will
randomly pick candidates from the ‘pool’ and send an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
Then you can start your application.
“How long do I need
to wait until I get an ITA?” Good question, it depends. Some countries
have more quotas, while others only have a few hundred. So, if you are lucky,
you might get an invitation really fast. And there’s also the possibility that
you won’t receive an invitation before the end of the season.
When you get an invitation, you can then start filling out
the application forms and pay the CAD 272 (CAD172+100) fee. You might also need
to take a health exam (again, it depends on what country you are from). After
that, you will wait for the application to be processed.
|
After you apply |
|
If you application
got approved, you will get a Port of Entry (POE) letter of introduction in your IRCC account. If
it doesn’t pass the approval, then you will get a letter of explanation. The
POE letter is valid for 1 year, and you must show the POE letter together with
other supporting documents when you arrive at border control in Canada.
|
What to prepare after approval |
|
Before you come to Canada, you will need to buy insurance
that covers the entire period of your stay in Canada, and it must cover:
|
|
|
And as you arrive at the Canadian border, you will need to
provide these supporting documents to the immigration officer
