Taiwan | Business Visa Solutions for Foreign Nationals Working in China
|
As cross-border business activity continues to grow across Asia, an increasing number of foreign professionals are either employed by companies in China or stationed there by overseas headquarters to oversee regional operations. When these individuals need to travel to Taiwan for meetings, business negotiations, or short-term project work, obtaining the right visa becomes a critical part of the planning process.
Yet for many, the first major
hurdle is figuring out: where to apply for a Taiwan visa while based in
China? Taiwan visa applications cannot be submitted from within mainland
China, which often leads to confusion among foreign nationals regarding the
correct application channel. Fortunately, there are practical alternatives
available. Based on our hands-on experience, we’ve assisted numerous clients in
similar situations to successfully obtain their Taiwan business visas and
complete their trips smoothly.

TECO Hong Kong: The Most
Common Application Route
|
|
In most cases, foreign
nationals (excluding Hong Kong and Macau residents) who hold a valid Chinese
residence permit, such as a work visa or a long-term stay visa, can apply for a
Taiwan business visa through one of Taiwan’s overseas missions. The Taipei
Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Hong Kong is the most frequently used
office for these applications due to its proximity, accessibility, and
well-established procedures.
If you hold a passport from a visa-exempt country, you may also be eligible to enter Taiwan directly for business activities without applying for a visa in advance. (Click here to view Taiwan’s list of visa-exempt countries and permitted stay durations.)

Submitting a Taiwan visa application through TECO Hong Kong is typically the best-fit option for those who: 1. Hold a passport from a country that is not part of Taiwan’s visa exemption program (e.g., Turkey, Maldives, Indonesia) 2. Possess a valid Chinese residence or work permit 3. Have a well-defined business purpose for visiting Taiwan, backed by official documents from a Taiwan-based company or institution.
Note: Applicants from certain countries may be subject to additional restrictions or special review procedures. Please reach out our Kaizen Mobility & Immigration team for case-specific advice.
